On 9 January, it was my first Infocomm lesson of my Secondary 1 year! I was pretty excited as I got to use the computers and learn about IT stuff!
During the lesson, we learnt about Web and New Media, which my teacher, Mr Kent Cheong, taught us about. He also showed us a very interesting video that Microsoft created.
The link is shown below!

Besides the interesting video, Mr Kent also posted on the school learning platform a 57 slides reading resource about the Internet and the World Wide Web.
These are some of the interesting facts that I got from the 57 slides reading resources
1) I now know the history of the Internet. Did you know that Internet originated from Aparanet, which was a Networking project by Pentagon's Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) and that its goal was to allow scientists at different locations to share information and also to function if part of network were disabled?
2)I learnt how the Internet works! I learnt that we can connect to the Internet either by slow-speed technology (Dial-up access) or by high speed connections (Digital Subscriber Line or cable modem).
3)I am aware how to choose which kind of broadband provider. Cable Modem is the best, if you can get it, DSL has most service options, while satellite is best for rural homes.
4)I realise that there are many different ways to surf the internet, such as ISP, OSP and Wireless Service Internet Provider.
5)I have acquired the knowledge of what is the World Wide Web. It is a World Wide collection of electronic documents, and each electronic document is called a webpage.
6) I am also informed of what is a web browser. It is a program that allows us to view web pages. There are many web browsers, such as chrome, firefox, safari and etc.
7) I know the definition of what is a URL. It stands for Uniform Resource Locator, which is an unique address for a web page.
8) I gain some understanding of what is multimedia. It is an application integrating text with all other media elements, such as Graphics, Animation, Audio, Video, and Virtual Reality.
9) I become aware of what graphics formats are used on the Web. There are many of these, but I shall list some of the most common points, such as BMP, JPEG, PNG, GIF and TIFF.
10)I learnt about Web Publishing too. What is Web Publishing, you may ask. Web Publishing is the development and maintenance of Web pages,
This is a summary of what I learnt during my first infocomm lesson!
